University College London: development, testing and commissioning of software for the Gemini High Resolution Optical Spectrograph (bHROS)

The client

University College London, Optical Science Laboratory, part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Project background

The High Resolution Optical Spectrograph (bHROS) will be used on the 8-metre Gemini telescope at Cerro Pachon in Chile. The bench-mounted instrument will be used to obtain very high resolution spectra of astronomical objects.

Our responsibility

UCL initially required additional software effort for its bHROS team, which we provided. In 2001 however Observatory Sciences’ remit was expanded to encompass all aspects of the production, testing and commissioning of the bHROS software.
